About Shalom Early Childhood Center

The Campus Our school is located in the Young Mashadi Jewish Center in Great Neck, NY. Built in 2006, we have a state of the art facility with large and colorful classrooms, a spacious indoor playroom, and an exciting outdoor playground.

School Goals Our school provides a secure, loving, Jewish environment for youngsters two through five years, surrounding them with love, warmth and affection. We make preschool years memorable and joyful, while preparing students for the school years ahead. We are licensed by the New York State, and comply with all of their regulations and recommendations.

We establish a strong foundation for learning, as we introduce youngsters to the academic world that awaits them. The preschool years are pivotal ones that set a precedent and tone for children’s future academic life. We imbue Judaic values and traditions, with a special focus on the unique and distinctive culture of the Mashadi Jewish heritage.

About the Program The Shalom Early Childhood Program is wonderfully enriched. All of our activities are well thought out, age appropriate, and individualized to meet the needs, abilities and interests of each child.

Play is the focal point around which all activities are centered.

Learning and Readiness: Children learn through everything that they do. Reading readiness activities ensure our children’s preparedness for Kindergarten and the grades.

Language and Literature: We enrich children’s language by exposing them to the best in children’s literature, and cultivating a love of books.

Living Judaism: Judaic strands are interwoven throughout the curriculum. Holidays, Shabbat, Tefilah and Hebrew are joyous experiences, integrated into classroom activities.

Music and movement add to the wonderful atmosphere in each classroom. We have a fantastic music teacher who entrances the children every week.

Art: Children’s creativity is encouraged with an emphasis on process rather than product. Through painting, collaging, cutting and coloring we give children pride in the work of their hands.

Science: Through the discovery method and experimentation,we heighten children’s awareness of the wonders of nature.

Active Play: Time is set aside every day, indoors and out, for the essence of childhood- running, climbing, and riding tricycles.

Snack time and Lunch: Our nutritious hot lunches and healthy snacks offer a wonderful time to socialize, learn Brachot, use basic Hebrew, relax, and develop healthy eating habits.

Special Activities: Throughout the year we have exciting events like parades, fairs, or circuses to enrich the curriculum, and add an air of excitement.

Trips are the height of experiential learning. It’s so special to go to different sites with classmates. Sometimes trips coordinate with a unit, sometimes they’re just fun.

Holiday celebrations are celebrated with parties, entertainers, and delightful children’s programs.

Parents’ Involvement is encouraged at festive holiday celebrations, and enjoyable participation days for mothers, fathers, grandparents, and siblings.

We offer meaningful lectures, workshops, and special programs for parents and encourage parents’ help for exciting hands-on experiences.
